Responsible use

Permission first. Transparency still matters.

Watermark processing can support legitimate editing, but technical capability is not permission. Use Delete SynthID only where you have the rights and a defensible reason to modify the image.

Before you upload

Proceed only if at least one of these is true:

  • You created the image and the generation or editing terms allow your intended use.
  • You own the relevant rights.
  • You have a license that permits modification and removal of the relevant mark or metadata.
  • The rights holder has explicitly authorized the edit.

If none applies, stop and obtain permission. Access to a file is not the same as the right to alter it.

What this service is not for

Do not use Delete SynthID to remove artist signatures, copyright notices, stock-library watermarks, licensing controls, evidence labels, purchase gates, or provenance disclosures that you are required to retain. Do not use an output to impersonate a person, mislead an audience about authorship, evade platform policy, or commit fraud.

Keep appropriate disclosures

Removing a mark from an authorized image does not settle what you should disclose when publishing it. Consider the rules of the platform, client, employer, contest, marketplace, and jurisdiction involved. When origin or AI assistance would matter to a reasonable viewer, preserve or add a clear disclosure.

This guidance is not legal advice. If ownership, licensing, publicity rights, or required disclosure is unclear, ask the rights holder or a qualified professional before proceeding.

Review the output

Processing can change texture, text, edges, faces, or fine detail. Compare the result with your original before publishing it. The service does not guarantee complete removal or a particular result from a proprietary watermark detector.
